Step 1: Access the View menu & select Progress Line.
Step 2: Access the Layout Options Bar & select Bar Chart Options & click the Progress Line tab.
Step 2a: Select the size & color of the Progress Line and the Baseline (either the Project or Primary User Baseline) used as the basis for calculating the Progress Line.
Step 2b: Select the option for drawing the progress line (we will explore each option).
Step 3: Draw Progress Line based upon the difference between current and baseline activity’s “Start Date”.
Step 3a: The bar labels on the Gantt chart below are displaying the activity start date, baseline date, variance (activity start date minus baseline date).
Step 4: Draw Progress Line based upon the difference between current and baseline activity’s “Finish Date”.
Step 4a: The bar labels on the Gantt chart below are displaying the activity finish date, baseline date, variance (activity finish date minus baseline date).
Step 5: Draw Progress Line by connecting progress points based on activity’s Remaining Duration. The progress point will be calculated as Baseline Finish minus Remaining Duration.
Step 5a: The progress line will be drawn with respect to the baseline bar.
Step 5b: The appropriate baseline bars must be displayed in order for the progress line to display.
Step 5c: The bar labels on the layout below are displaying remaining duration for each activity.
Step 6: Draw Progress Line by connecting progress points based on activity’s Percent Complete.
Step 6a: The progress line will be drawn with respect to the baseline bar.
Step 6b: The appropriate baseline bars must be displayed in order for the progress line to display.
Step 6c: The bar labels on the layout below are displaying Percent Complete for each activity.
Step 7: It is important to remember to display the appropriate baseline bars for steps 5 & 6.
Step 7a: Access the Bars option from the Layout Options Bar to make sure that you are displaying the correct baseline bars.
Step 7b: The dialog box below indicates that the Primary User Baseline bars will be displayed.
The Progress Line will be drawn from the Data Date under the following conditions:
- Activity is a milestone.
- Activity is not included in the baseline.
- Activity is completed.
- Activity is not started and the baseline is on or after the data date.
